Alice Means is a "snowbird" who spends six months in CT and the winter months in FL, where she lives on a golf course outside of Haines City. She has been quilting since 1994 and has made over 200 quilts in all sizes and styles. She is a traditional quilter who enjoys making quilts using Precise Piecing, Accurate Appliqué, Creative Colors, Amazing Adaptations, and Exciting Embellishments. She does appliqué and piecing both by hand and machine, and does all of her own quilting on her home sewing and embroidery machines.

She has won numerous awards at quilt shows throughout New England and Florida, and has been juried into the prestigious AQS shows, where she has won twice in Nashville. Alice has also entered the Hoffman Challenge since 2000, and has won 1st place in 2009 in Mixed Techniques, Best Machine Workmanship in 2007 in Pieced, a 3rd place in 2006 in Pieced, and two Curator's Choice awards in Mixed Techniques and Pieced in 2003 and 2005.

Alice has had several of her quilts pictured in Quiltmaker magazine, American Quilter magazine, and the AQS Quilt Art Engagement Calendar 2008 through 2011.

She has also exhibited at the National Quilt Museum in Paducah, the Art Complex Museum in Duxbury, MA, the Danforth Museum in Framingham, MA, the Mill Museum in Willimantic, CT, and the Owensboro Museum of Fine Arts in Owensboro, KY.

Alice brings 40-50 quilts to show at her trunk show, which is like a mini-quilt show, and she will answer questions and describe various techniques used in the making of each quilt, including tips and shortcuts for quilters learned on her quilting journey.

Alice teaches workshops on techniques such as couching and embellishments, piping, and bobbin work. Classes include projects using folded-back patchwork, tucks, and peek-a-boo borders.

She is a member of
SSQA, AQS, IQA, the Greater Hartford and Clamshell Quilt Guilds in CT, and the Cabin Fever and Winter Haven Guilds in FL. Between all the quilting, teaching and guild meetings, she finds time to play golf a few times every week. You may e-mail Alice at apmeans@aol.com.
